for Week of October 20, 2003

St. Cloud Police: Robbery

On 10-23-03 at 1:36 AM, Officer's responded to the Comfort Inn, 4040 2nd Street South in reference to a Robbery. The victim stated that a male displayed a handgun, forced him into the bathroom and stole a safe from the business. The victim was not injured. An undetermined amount of money was stolen. The investigation is ongoing.

St. Cloud Police:  Weapon Display

On 10/21/03 at approximately 08:23 AM, a student was walking to school when she was approached by two Hispanic males driving a newer red or possibly maroon 4 -door with no rear license plate and tinted rear window.

The one male occupant flashed what looked like a handgun at the student and then left the area.

Limited physical description; two Hispanic males in their 20's, last seen in the Centennial Park area of 10th Street North and 11th Avenue North.

Stearns County Sheriff:  Burglaries

On 10/17/03, the Stearns Co Sheriffs Office received reports of burglaries at 8 different businesses in western part of the county. Break ins were reported in Elrosa, Greenwald, and Spring Hill. Small items such
as change, cigarettes and beverages were stolen, along with significant damage due to forced entry. All of the break ins appear related.

Stearns County Sheriff:  Mailbox Vandalisms

On 10/15/03 reports of numerous mailbox vandalism's were received by the Stearns Co Sheriffs Office. Roughly 30 mailboxes were damaged between Richmond and Farming along CR 23. Mail was removed from several of the boxes, opened, and thrown into the ditch. The US Postal Service is assisting in the investigation.

Avon Police:  Burglary

The Avon Police are investigating a burglary and an attempted burglary of two businesses overnight October 19th to October 20th.

Avon's true value hardware store, at 107 Avon Avenue So., was burglarized with forced entry to the rear door. An undetermined amount of cash was taken.

Also reported was an attempted burglary at the Midtown Bar, 110 Avon Avenue So.

Both cases are actively being investigated.

St. Cloud Police:  Robbery

On Saturday, October 18, 2003, at 9:41 AM, officers were dispatched to the Tom Thumb at 1501 Northway Drive, for a robbery complaint that had just occurred. The lone cashier that was working stated suspect tried to grab money from the till while she was getting the suspect change. She slammed the drawer shut on his hand and the suspect then came around the counter and confronted the cashier. The cashier allowed the suspect into the till and took an undetermined amount of currency. The suspect fled the area on foot.

Suspect was described as: White male, 5’-8” tall, thin build, blue eyes, early 30's, wearing blue or purple jersey, blue jeans.
