Open cases received the week of March 3, 2003
Rice Police:
The Rice Police Department is
investigating a series of vandalisms and criminal damage to public
property cases in that community. Specifically, a number of new signs
marking pedestrian crosswalks have been damaged or defaced to the point of
needing replacement. Damage to the signs is not only a crime, but also
endangers the pedestrians in Rice.
Avon Police:

The Avon Police Department is
investigating a Theft by Swindle – Quick Change Scam.
These may be the same individuals mentioned in
the Waite Park case on January 14th. These individuals are
believed to be targeting fast food and convenience stores in communities
along the I-94 corridor and other major roadways in the Twin Cities.
Basic scam: Suspects will pay with an amount of money or ask the
clerk to make change for a larger bill. When the clerk makes
change; they will state that they had given the clerk a larger bill or
amount of money - quick change scam.
Suspect 1: Black male, approximately: 57 years old, 5’9” tall, 185
pounds, described as the “bigger male of the group, with no facial hair.
Suspect 2: Black male, approximately: 59 years old, 6’01” to 6’03”
tall, 170 pounds, described as “skinny” with a graying goatee.
Suspect 3: Black male, approximately: 53 years old, 6’01” tall, 125
pounds, described as “skinny”.
Suspects wear various clothing descriptions; however, suspects may also
wear what has been described as a "blues style" or a "top hat" style hat.
Suspects have used various vehicles through out the State of Minnesota,
including vehicles described as Honda Civic or Mazda Protégé looking
vehicles.
St. Cloud Police:
The St. Cloud Police Department is investigating the theft of a 1968
Gibson ES345 Electric Guitar. The guitar is Burgundy metal flake color,
with a red strap and black signatures on the face. Also stolen were a
large black/silver flat guitar case with blue velvet lining and two sound
control pedals. These items were stolen at DB Searle’s in downtown St.
Cloud on March 5th. Loss is listed at $3,000.00.
Stearns County Sheriff:
The Stearns County Sheriff is investigating a series of thefts from
construction sites in the St. Augusta area. A large variety of hand and
power construction tools were stolen from construction company trucks and
trailers along Garden Hills Lane, Garden Hills Drive, and Garden Hills
Road in the Garden Hills Addition. Most of the thefts occurred on February
9th. Witnesses report seeing a white colored Ford Explorer or Chevrolet
Blazer in the area, with its lights off at 2:30 AM. Loss here is listed as
in excess of $4,100.00.
