Crime Stoppers Open Cases
for Week of October 24,  2005

Stearns County:  Theft of Farm Equipment and Criminal Damage to Property
 

On 10-25-05 Stearns county deputies responded to a theft of a gravity box from a field by CR 30 and Overton Rd in Grove Twp. Through investigation it appears somebody overnight entered the field and hookup to the gravity box and pulled it down some back roads destroying numerous mailboxes. The gravity box eventually went into the ditch and the gravity box broke off of the running gear. The running gear was then pulled around back roads some more and caused more damage to mailboxes. The running gear was eventually located on CR 186 by 375th Ave in Sauk Centre Twp.

Approximately damage of the mailboxes and gravity box is around $4,000.00

Benton County: Theft of tractor

The Benton County Sheriff is investigating a theft from Blank Implement Section 3 Gilmanton Township between 10/20/05 - 10/21/05.

Missing from the lot is a Massey Ferguson 1225 Diesel with a mower deck, red and gray in color. This unit is valued at $6,000 dollars.

Sartell Police: 3 Burglaries

The Sartell police department is investigating three burglaries that occurred over the weekend.
* The first was at the Benton drive Mini-Serv located on the East side of Sartell. Taken in this burglary were multiple packs and cartons of various brands of cigarettes.
* The second burglary was of a residence on the east side of Sartell taken in this burglary was stereo equipment and coins.
* The third was at corporate office of Gold’s Gym. Taken was a complete computer setup and a Pitney Bowes postal meter, with scale.

Sartell Police: Criminal Damage to Property

The Sartell police department is investigating the smashing of five vehicle windshields that occurred Thursday night while the vehicles were parked on the street in the 400 block of 7th Ave. and the 300 block of 4th Ave.

Sartell Police: Construction Site Thefts

The Sartell police department is investigating several thefts from construction sites in the southern portion of the city. Within the past 5 days, person(s) have broken into vehicles and construction trailers parked at construction sites, as well as stole property from around the site it self.

Items stolen include hand tools, power tools, building material, scaffolding, 10 foot lengths of PVC pipe. It is believed that these thefts occur after dark.

St. Cloud Police: Business Burglary


On 10/25/05 at 0918 hours officers were dispatched to an alarm at 500 25th Avenue North Elwood Auto Sales.

Upon arrival officers met with an employee who had just arrived and noticed that the front glass door was smashed in. Investigation revealed that someone had entered the business and stole a Roison scooter.

St. Cloud Police: Internet Scam

On 10/25/05 officers were dispatched to an internet scam complaint.

Investigation revealed that the complainant had been contacted over the internet through a chat room requesting that he cash a check that would be mailed to him and then send a money order back.

The complainant received a check that was a high quality counterfeit replica of a United States Treasury check. The complainant did not cash the check and instead contacted the police.

Citizens are reminded to be aware of these scams.

St. Cloud Police: Phone Scam

On 10/2S/0S officers were dispatched to a phone scam complaint in the 500 block of 1st Street North.

Investigation revealed that an elderly female had been contacted over the phone by a male claiming to be from TCF Bank. The male informed her that TCF was updating their security system and was able to obtain her checking account numbers from her.

The complainant realized it was a scam after the phone call was over and was able to notify TCF Bank prior to any money being taken.

Citizens are asked to be aware of anyone calling and requesting private information such as account numbers and Social Security numbers.

St. Cloud Police: Residential Burglary

On 10/23/05 at approximately 1754 hours officers from the St. Cloud Police Department were dispatched to the 3200 block of 16th Avenue North for a burglary. The residents were out of town for the weekend.

It appeared as if the house was burglarized sometime during the weekend. Investigation revealed that an unknown individual threw a rock through the glass sliding door to gain entrance into the residence. The total amount lost including the damaged glass door was approximately $5,100.00.

Sherburne County: Multiple Case Summaries (7)

October 22nd, a resident of 100th St. in Livonia Township reported unknown suspect(s) entered his vehicle and took an in-dash stereo valued at $200.

October 22, a business located on 146th St. in Orrock Township reported forced entry; nothing appears to have been taken.

October 21st, a resident of 180th Ave. in Big Lake Township reported the theft of hubcaps from a vehicle: value is estimated at $55.

October 20th, a resident of 211th Ave. in Big Lake Township reported the theft of two handmade signs; one located at 211th Ave. and Co. Rd. 43 and the other at 211th Ave. and Co. Rd. 15. Estimated replacement cost is $110.

October 19th, a resident of 150th Ave. in Santiago Township reported the theft of tools from a lean-to-shed. Loss is estimated at $340.

October 18th, a resident of 233rd Ave. in Orrock Township reported the theft of a Kenwood car stereo valued at $3,800 from her vehicle.

October 18th, a resident of 180th St. in Orrock Township reported the theft of a 2003 Artic Cat ATV valued at $2,400. Also taken was a Yamaha helmet and goggles valued at $140.

October 18th, a resident of 233rd Ave. in Orrock Township reported the theft of about 12 CD’s from her vehicle.

October 17th, a business located on 5th Ave. North in Zimmerman reported an unknown suspect(s) broke into the entrance area and stole $127 worth of misc. items.

St. Cloud Police: Business Burglary

On 10/22/05 at approximately 2256 hours, St. Cloud Police were dispatched to the Mediterranean Cafe at 815 West St. Germain in reference to a burglary. Upon arrival police learned that unknown suspect(s) entered the rear of the restaurant and stole the contents of a collection jar for the Islamic Center of St. Cloud.

The unknown suspect(s) also took approximately $200 out of the tip jar, a laptop computer and approximately 45 calling cards.

The total loss was approximately $1,500 in cash, checks, and merchandise. The restaurant was unoccupied at the time of the burglary.

St. Cloud Police: (4) Business Burglaries

On 10/20/05 officers with the St. Cloud Police Department responded to burglaries at the following businesses:

1. JM Oil Co. on Southway Drive
2. Southway Floral on Clearwater Road
3. Q Nai1s on 2nd Street South
4. Rite Away Oil Change on 2nd Street South.

In each of the above burglaries entry was made by the suspect(s) breaking windows and crawling through them. It appears that the intention of the suspects was gaining money as the cash registers were either stolen entirely or broken into.

Investigation continues into these burglaries and any other possible burglaries on the South Side of St. Cloud.

Stearns County Sheriff: Residential Burglary

On 10-18-05, the SCSO received a report of a daytime residential burglary to a private home on Lake Maria Road in Lynden Twp.  Unknown persons forced entry to the home by forcing open the front door. 

Stolen items include a total of 8 long guns, a small jewelry box, and a glass jar full of quarters.  Persons with information are asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
