Stearns County Sheriff: Theft

On Sunday February 20, 2005 the Sheriff’s office received a complaint of a theft of cash from a purse in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. The victim reported that a subject entered the rectory claiming to be looking for something. The subject’s actions made the victim nervous and she left the rectory to seek help. While she was away, cash was taken from her purse.

The victim and other persons in the area described the suspect as a white male, approximately 6’02”, mid thirties, slender build and wearing glasses.

The Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect, which is the focus of this investigation. However, no arrest has been made at this time. We continue to coordinate this investigation with other law enforcement agencies that have received similar complaints.

Based on previous reports to law enforcement, we believe this suspect may be involved in several incidents relating to the solicitation of donations from churches. We believe that while at the churches he may also commit thefts.
