Stearns County Sheriff: Business Burglaries
Since late December to present Stearns County
has had approximately 14 business burglaries, occurring all in small
towns. On December 19th, 2004, 2 burglaries occurred in the city of
Holdingford. Similar burglaries were reported in Morrison County. On
January 18th, 2005, 5 burglaries were reported on the west end of our
that county. On January 21, 2005, several more burglaries occurred out
west. Todd County had similar reports on that date. On February 18th,
2005, 2 more burglaries were reported in Holdingford. On Feb. 26th and
28th, burglaries were reported in Elrosa and Belgrade. Todd County and
Morrison County had similar burglaries the same evenings. Based on
evidence we believe all the burglaries are related. Burglars are
targeting small town businesses, specifically co-op stores and feed
mills. They are generally taking cash that is on hand.
SJU Life Safety Office and Stearns County Sheriff: Felony Theft

Life Safety office of St. Johns University are investigating the theft of
a number of multi-media projection devices taken from buildings on the
campus of St. John’s. The items are projectors, which can be hooked up to
computers, VCR’s and other items to project the image on to a screen or
wall. The projectors were taken from various buildings sometime from
February 22 to February 23rd, 2005.
The total value of the projectors and other items taken is in excess of $
18,000.00. St. Johns University was able to provide Law Enforcement with
detailed information about the equipment. Law enforcement is asking that
the public report the sale or any attempts at sale of this type of used
equipment especially if the sale price appears to be below market value.
Stearns County Sheriff: Theft
On Sunday February 20, 2005 the Sheriff’s
office received a complaint of a theft of cash from a purse in the
Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. The victim reported
that a subject entered the rectory claiming to be looking for something.
The subject’s actions made the victim nervous and she left the rectory to
seek help. While she was away, cash was taken from her purse.
The victim and other persons in the area described the suspect as a white
male, approximately 6’02”, mid thirties, slender build and wearing
glasses.
The Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect, which is the focus of this
investigation. However, no arrest has been made at this time. We continue
to coordinate this investigation with other law enforcement agencies that
have received similar complaints.
Based on previous reports to law enforcement, we believe this suspect may
be involved in several incidents relating to the solicitation of donations
from churches. We believe that while at the churches he may also commit
thefts.
The Sheriff’s Office is advising caution for persons dealing with
collections at churches and while dealing with strangers who may be
soliciting donations.
