for Week of June 27, 2005

St. Cloud Police: Assault (Supplement)

On 6/26/05 at approximately 1 am, officers responded to the St. Cloud Hospital for a reported assault. A 28-year old male stated he was assaulted on 11th Ave S near Division Street. The victim stated that he was asked for money by two black males, one of whom was carrying a hatchet. When the victim stated he had no money, the male with the hatchet struck the victim several times. It is most likely that the blunt end of the hatchet was used. Several other black males arrived and proceeded to kick and punch the victim as he was on the ground. The suspects remain at large.

6/30/05 – Supplement: The St. Cloud Police Dept. has received information that prior to this assault, additional victims may have been assaulted at the same location, shortly before this assault, possibly by the same suspects. St. Cloud Police: Residential Burglary

On 6/30/05, the St. Cloud P.D. responded to a burglary complaint on 21st Ave N, near Division St. The investigation revealed that unknown person(s) stole a garage door transmitter from the homeowner’s vehicle parked outside the garage. On either the same date of a later date, it is believed the suspect(s) used the transmitter to gain entry to the garage and removed several items. Items taken include a large Craftsman 3-drawer tool chest valued at $450 containing approximately $1,500 in tools, fishing equipment, two bikes, an air compressor, a laptop computer and a DVD player. The items were in the garage because the homeowner was preparing to move. The estimated value of the items exceeds $5,000.

St. Cloud Police: Business Burglary

On 7/1/05, St. Cloud Police responded to a burglary at Go For It Gas at 1000 9th Ave S. The burglary occurred sometime between 1 am and 3:19 am. Suspects gained entry by smashing the south glass door a leaving with approximately $1,000 in cigarettes and pipes.

St. Cloud Police: Assault

Stearns County Sheriff: Bike Theft

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a bicycle stolen from Quarry Park on 6/23/05 between 2 pm and 8 pm. The bicycle is a Roadmaster 18 speed, blue and yellow, with rusty handlebars and new tires.

Stearns County Sheriff: Illegal Dumping

During the evening of 6/27/05 or early morning hours of 6/28/05, unknown persons dumped 50+ old tires in the area of St. Johns/Avon. The automotive and tractor tires were scattered along 315th Ave and County Road 159.

Stearns County Sheriff: Tire Slashing

Over the past month, there have been several reports of tire slashing in the City of Freeport. Tires have been slashed on cars and trucks parked on the street and in private garages. The crimes appear to be random.

St. Cloud Police: Sexual Assault (Update)

On 6/26/05 at 0146 hours officers were dispatched to the area of the 1900 b1ock of Michigan Avenue Southeast for a sexual assault. Investigation revealed that a twenty year old, female victim of St. Cloud, reported that she was sexually assaulted by a stranger in the woods near the 1900 block of Michigan Avenue Southeast.

The suspect is described as a dark completed male in his thirties, approximately 5'9", slender build, with shaved hair on the sides and a pony tail in the back

Update – 6/29/05
As of this date, a photograph of the suspect vehicle is being released to the media for the public’s assistance in identification. The suspect vehicle is further described as a dark colored late 1980’s to early 1990’s Chevrolet conversion van with two light-colored stripes running the length of the vehicle. A spare tire appeared to be mounted on the rear of the vehicle in a case with metallic trim. The vehicle also has at least one running board the full length of the vehicle between the front and rear wheel tires on the passenger side of the vehicle. St. Cloud Police: Assualt

Between the dates of 6/17/05 and 6/26/05, the St. Cloud Police Department has taken three complaints of persons being assaulted by multiple black males and females, some with weapons such as baseball bats or clubs in the Southside area near the SCSU campus. Person traveling in this area on foot are requested to use caution, especially during the evening hours. Pedestrians are urged to walk in lit areas and with other persons whenever possible.

St. Cloud Police: Phone Scam

On 6/24/05, at approximately 1244 hours, the St. Cloud Police were dispatched to 33rd Ave N in reference to a possible telephone scam. It was learned that an unknown male telephone the victim trying to ascertain his bank name, account and routing numbers. The victim did not give this information to the caller. The unknown male identified himself as David Morgan and game a call-back number, which turned out to be a bogus number. The St. Cloud P.D. is asking that anyone who receives a similar call to contact the St. Cloud P.D. or Tri-County Crime Stoppers.

St. Cloud Police: Burglary and Possible Attempted Sexual Assault

On 6/27/05 at 0245 hours officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of 24th Avenue North, for a Burglary in progress. Investigation revealed that an unknown male had entered a bedroom, through an unlocked window, touched the sleeping female who then screamed.

The unknown male got up and ran out of the open window. The area was searched by officers and active K-9, with negative contact.

St. Cloud Police: Sexual Assault

On 6/26/05 at 0146 hours officers were dispatched to the area of the 1900 b1ock of Michigan Avenue Southeast for a sexual assault. St. Cloud Police: Assaults

On 06/26/05 at 0047 hours officers were dispatched to 7th Street South & 7th Avenue South, for an assault complaint. Upon arrival officers found three persons that had been assaulted by a group of 10-15 black males ranging from 16-20 years of age.

Two of the victims had been transported to the hospital for their injuries. One victim did not require medical treatment.

Investigation revealed that the group of males had begun assaulting these persons for no apparent reason. One of the victims had been struck by an unknown object.

Case #2:

On 06/26/05 at approximately 0030 hours it was reported that four individuals had been assaulted at 7th Avenue and 7th Street South. A juvenile female had been struck in the face breaking her nose.

The suspects were described as three black females and several black males.

One victim received medical attention from the St. Cloud Hospital.

This case appears to be related to the above case, which also was a felony assault.


Cold Spring Police: 3- Business Burglaries

On Friday morning 6-24-2005 the Cold Spring Police Department responded to three forced entry business burglaries. All of the burglaries occurred in the Cold Spring / Richmond area. Police are looking for a very old safe that was taken and has not been located.

Waite Park Police: Theft

On Thursday, June 23, 2005, the Waite Park Police Department was called to a theft that occurred at Al’s Iron, 304 31st Avenue N. Stolen was a rod iron spiral staircase, valued at $3500.00.

Waite Park Police: Criminal Damage to Property

On Thursday, June 23, 2005, the Waite Park Police Department was called to a property damage complaint at McKinley School in Waite Park. One of the windows had been broke out the school. The value of the window is $500.00
