4th of July Safety Tips:
With the 4th of July occurring in the middle of the week, the AAA and
National Safety Council are predicting a larger number of American
families will be taking extended vacations during this time. As you
prepare for your trip and vacation, here are some safety tips to help
protect your property.
* Have the Post Office hold your mail or have a responsible friend or
relative pick it up every day.
* Stop any newspaper deliveries.
* Depending upon the length of your vacation, make arrangements for
someone to mow your lawn.
* Leave several small lights on or use the automatic timers.
* Notify responsible neighbors of your absence.
* Most law enforcement agencies appreciate being notified of residential
vacations and many will provide courtesy drive bys or property checks.
Check with your local police or sheriff’s department in your community.
* If you have a friend or relative that is a “key holder”, make sure that
any law enforcement notification includes this information.
* Leave an itinerary including possible phone numbers, destinations and
your vehicle’s description and license number, in case there is an
emergency need to contact you.
