St. Cloud Police: Attempted Fraud
On 10/05/09 at 0956 hours officers were dispatched to the southeast side
location regarding a report of attempted fraud. Investigation revealed
that an elderly female had been contacted by phone from an international
number requesting she send a money gram for $500 in order to claim a cash
price. The elderly female had purchased the money order from Wal-Mart but
the transaction had been blocked by Wal-Mart security due to the
suspicious circumstances. No money was lost this date by the female. All
contacts between the female and the suspect is believed to be from over
the phone and out of the country.
The public is reminded not to send money to any individuals concerning
lotteries, especially those from out of the United States, as nearly all
are scams and it is very difficult to retrieve any money that would be
sent to these individuals.
