release St. Cloud Police: Hate Crime
Investigation
St. Cloud police are investigating anti-Islamic cartoons found Tuesday in
at least two locations in the city. The graphic, sexually explicit
cartoons were posted on utility poles in the 10 block of Second Avenue
Northeast and the 300 block of Fifth Avenue South.
The posters included hand-drawn and digitally-altered photos that are
derogatory toward Muslims. They included depictions of the prophet
Mohammed and a swastika, among other images. Five pages of the images were
posted on a pole in front of Mandeeq Shop, 123 East St. Germain St.
The police are investigating who posted the cartoons and are talking to
local businesses and residents about whether they saw anything suspicious.
Police say it appears the posters' placement meets the standards of a hate
crime.
Anyone with information or who found similar images elsewhere can contact
police at 251-1200 or Crime Stoppers at 255-1301.
St. Cloud Police: Theft of “Toys for Tots Funds”
The St. Cloud Police are investigating the theft of monetary donations
designated for the Toys for Tots Program.
The manager of Thrifty Motel and her staff had been collecting donations
for the Toys for Tots program in a clear plastic jar when it was stolen
between 2 and 3 p.m. Monday, December 7th.
An estimated $192 was stolen before the staff could reach its goal of
$200, and the theft was reported to police officers, who are reviewing
security tapes.
Marv Binstock, a representative of the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots
Program, was surprised and saddened to learn of the theft at the motel,
but he said theft from the program happens. Binstock said $200 would have
provided toys for about 10 children, ranging from infants to teens; the
Toys for Tots Program spends about $10 on a toy, with each child receiving
two toys. Benton County Sheriff: 2 –
Residential Burglaries
On 12-03-09 the Benton County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of
a burglary at a residence in the 4900 block of North Benton Drive in Sauk
Rapids Township. The homeowner reported that their residence was
burglarized during the daytime hours when no one was at home. The
homeowner reported that home electronics, jewelry, cash, and a white tail
deer mount were taken during the burglary.
Also on 12-03-09 the Benton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a
residential burglary alarm in the 3800 block of 65th St NE in Mayhew Lake
Township.
Investigating deputies found that the door to this residence had been
forced open. This forced entry tripped the residential alarm. The
homeowner advised deputies that nothing was taken from the residence.
Through the investigation into these crimes, the Sheriff's Office has
developed the description of a vehicle of interest. The vehicle is
described as an early 1990's through 2005 Saturn SW-1 Station Wagon, gold
in color, with black molding around the front/rear bumper.
Anyone with information concerning this vehicle or these crimes is asked
to contact the Benton County Sheriffs Office at 320-968-7201 or Tri-County
Crime Stoppers at 320-255-1301 (also on the web at

Typically, the Sheriffs Office sees a spike in thefts and burglaries
during the holiday season and this season is no exception. Residential and
business burglaries have been occurring with increased frequency in not
only Benton County, but also the jurisdictions surrounding Benton County.
Citizens are asked to remain alert for and report any suspicious activity
that they witness this holiday season. Citizens are also asked to lock
their doors and take other appropriate measures to increase the security
of their homes and businesses.
