St. Cloud Police: Crime Alert - Scam Attempt by Impersonation of St. Cloud Police Employees

The St. Cloud Police Department would like to alert the public that we have been advised of a local telephone scam attempt where the caller is impersonating a member of the St, Cloud Police Department.

The scam is a variant of the age~old scam of soliciting the potential victims to provide upfront money to claim a large cash prize. In this instance, an elderly lady was contacted by phone and asked to send $3,000 so she could receive a $300,000 cash prize that she had won.

The caller stated he was a member of the St. Cloud Police Department and impersonated a member of the department by name.

The caller advised the elderly lady to contact the St. Cloud Police Department to verify that he was an employee in an attempt to further legitimize this Scam.

We would like the public to be aware of this impersonation attempt and advise the public that St. Cloud Police employee names are often included in media reports and other documents which can be located easily by Internet search.
